Little Italy

Little Italy es el lugar perfecto para ir a comer. Sobretodo si eres europeo, y te apetece comer “comida” después de una temporada en Canadá. Por recomendación de la Lonely Planet, fuimos al “Bar Italia” en George St. La zona en sí no tiene mucho más que ver… En su época fue el lugar donde vivían los italianos que llegaban a Toronto, pero en la actualidad ya no es así. Es bonito. 

Little Italy is the perfect place to have lunch. If you come from europe, and you need “good food” after a while in Canada, here is where you have to go. I read in the Lonely Planet guide that “Bar Italia” was nice. It is in George St. We went there for the lunch, and really enjoyed it! Specially the desserts Little Italy has nothing special to see… is just to walk around the place. Some years ago it was the place where the italians who came to Toronto lived, but now is not like that. It is just beautiful.

Jens, the happy - crazy german boy

Lo bueno de viajar sola, es que acabas conociendo a muuucha gente. La mayoría personajes, que como tú, se han ido solos. Un ejemplo es Jens, la persona más … loca? que he conocido.  Entre otras hazañas, hizo un viaje de tres días en autobús de Toronto a Vancouver. Tres días para ir, y tres días para volver. Todos sus amigos dicen que está loco, “crazy”, yo digo que simplemente es feliz, “happy”. Pues bien, Jens ha estado en Madrid. Y mientras Nacho iba a ver baloncesto, mi amiga Alba y yo le enseñamos Madrid. Estuvo aprendiendo español, frases como “Buenos días pibón”, “Carajo!” (quién le habrá enseñado esa palabra???), “estoy hasta los cojones de caminar”… os invito a dar un paseo por su blog, www.onewaytickettocanadaandback.blogspot.com. Aunque estos días lo tiene abandondado, porque está de viaje. De Madrid se iba a Barcelona, de ahí a Marsella, y de Marsella pues no se… sé que iba a volver a casa para irse de nuevo, esta vez a Australia. Jens es también un viajero solitario, y yo le admiro mucho!!!

The good thing about traveling on your own is that you meet a lot of people that, as you, travel on their own. An example is Jens, the most crazy person I´ve ever met. He has done things like going from Toronto to Vancouver by bus. Three days on a bus to go, and three days to come back. All his friends from Toronto say that he is crazy, but I like to say that he is just happy. Jens has been in Madrid. He came to visit Nacho, and as he went to a basketball game, my friend Alba and me went with Jens for a walk to show him the city, the touristic places. He was learning spanish so fast, sentences like “buenos días pibón”, “carajo!” or “estoy hasta los cojones de caminar”. Who can translate this???? I invite you to see his blog, www.onewaytickettocandadaandback.blogspot.com. For some weeks he is out, he goes on travelling. He went from Madrid to Barcelona, then Marseille, and then… I´m not sure. I know he wanted to go back home, an then to Australia. Jens is a lonely traveler, and I admire him so much.

PD: don´t forget about talking in your blog about whiskey girls, beer girls, and wine girls. And also about the pingüin technical you can use with girls when it is cold…

Skydome - boring baseball

Una de las actividades de la escuela era ir al Skydome a ver algún partido. Yo fui a ver Blue Jays vs New York Yankees. Nunca había visto baseball. Qué juego taaaan aburrido!! En las más de tres horas que duró el partido, se hizo de noche. Era interminable, y nos fuimos antes de que acabase… Y eso que fue un partido histórico! Parece ser que los Blue Jays no ganan muy a menudo, y esta vez ganaron. Lo mejor, sin duda, las vistas de la CN Tower de noche, con sus lucecitas horterillas, y los concursos que hacen para entretener al público entre bola y bola.

 One of the activities in my school was to go to the Skydome to see baseball. I went to see Blue Jays vs New York Yankees. I had never seen baseball before. It´s sooooo boring!!!!! It was three hours of boring game. We had to go before if finished, we couldn´t stay more time watching this slow game. And it was an anthological game! The Blue Jays are not very good, and this time they won. The best, of course, the view of the CN Tower at night, with all the lights, and the funny competitions they did during the game.

Chinatown

Los que me conocéis, no os sorprenderéis si os digo que me gustó mucho Chinatown. Auténtico! Está en el downtown, cerca del campus de la Universidad de Toronto, donde yo vivía.  Su calle principal es Spadina Ave, más o menos desde el cruce con Queen St. hasta el cruce con George St. Puedes encontrar de todo, pero destaca por los mercados de comida. Hay un centro comercial bastante grande, donde está también la agencia Tai Pan (excursiones por Canadá bastante baratas, Spadina Ave, 222).

He vuelto / I´m back

Después de una semana de vacaciones, Mi planetarium vuelve a llenarse con fotos y temas canadienses. Esta semana, (a ver si me da tiempo!!), hablaré del Chinatown, Kensington Market, Little Italy de Toronto… y alguna otra cosilla que surja. Tengo que rescatar muuchas fotos que hice en el día de la Nueva Francia en Quebec, no se me olvida! Nos vemos por aquí,
